Getting started with feeding
"You'll find the ways to feed that suit you"
- Rose
After you have had a tube fitted, you will receive training on how to feed and how to look after it. This training usually happens before discharge from hospital and will continue after you get home. There are two main methods of feeding – via a feeding pump or a syringe. Both methods have different variations, and different pros and cons. There are several options you can try out, or you may even use a combination.
What is key is finding out what works best for you and your lifestyle. It may take a few days or weeks to find your preferred method. You can change your feeding method over time too – there is no one fixed way. More details about each method are in the next film ‘Feeding methods explained’ and for any terms that are new to you, please refer to our list of Key definitions.
